If you want super power packed nutrition – then you need to have my chocolate super food smoothie. high in antioxidants for hard core mover and shakers.
What it’s good for:
The pure raw cacao nut, or the cacao bean, is one of the most nutritious foods you can eat. High in antioxidants A C and E, magnesium for energy metabolism and heart health, chromium, which balances blood sugar and it’s extremely rich in vitamin C. The cacao bean is high in phosphorous and calcium, needed for the healthy growth and maintenance of bone and muscle health. The cacao bean is one of the highest sources of iron. One 28 gram serving, which is less than a handful, is equivalent to about 314% of RDA of iron. Raw cacao beans have an antioxidant (ORAC) score of 95,500 which is 14 times more flavonoids (antioxidants) than red wine and 21 times more than green tea. Cacao contains compounds that act as stimulants believed to boost serotonin and endorphin levels in the brain. It contains the stimulants theobromine and caffeine that can increase alertness and give you a pleasurable sensation similar to the high people get after exercise or sex. Hi Teresa,
This looks amazing. Would I find all the ingredients in the supermarket or are they in specialized stores? I’ve looked for cacao nibs before for your choc chip cookies but couldn’t find them. Also have not heard of macca powder or tahini (is that a powder too?)…lol. As you can see I am a bit of a novice and need lots of help. Your recipes inspire me (as I am a newly diagnosed coeliac) and my family and I are loving all the fresh, healthy and flavorsome varieties and choices that I can eat. Also we are enjoying experimenting in the kitchen too. Sxx
Hi Sam
Just in case you need a response before Monday – tahini is available at the supermarket from the health food aisle (you might find cacao nibs there too) it is a paste made from ground sesame seeds and comes hulled or unhulled (a key ingredient in making hommus too so handy to have!) and macca powder would be available from a health food store (the one I have has an orange label). I too am a coeliac so understand the joys of finding new foods that are easy to make, healthy, gluten free AND yummy!
Happy kitchen adventures
