STRAWBERRY MYLK

If you need a power packed, detox friendly and refreshing icy cold drink then my strawberry mylk hits the spot. Power packed with vitamins, minerals and healthy fats, my strawberry mylk will satisfy even the fussiest aficionados. When blending your strawberry mylk, I also recommend trying variations such as adding a handful of raw cashews before blending or using half almond milk and half yoghurt for a yummy strawberry lassie. This recipe is from my new cookbook Purely Delicious. 

WHAT’S GREAT ABOUT IT:

Strawberries are low in calories and high in antioxidants. A study published in the British Journal of Nutrition found that adding strawberries to your meals slowed the insulin responses by delaying the absorption of sugars in the digestive tract. Insulin is an anabolic hormone that increases storage of fat, protein and glucose. It’s main effect in regard to fat is to block lipolysis (oxidation of fat). Strawberries are also rich in vitamin C, which helps to keep the skin firm by aiding collagen production. Collagen gives strength and structure to your skin and is vital for elasticity and firmness. Silica, a trace mineral is also found in strawberries, and it assists with collagen formation as well as helping to improve your skin’s hydration and elasticity.

ingredients (Serves 1)

2 cups almond mylk or cashew mylk
1/2  cup fresh strawberries
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon honey or a little stevia
Ice to blend

method

1. Combine all the ingredients into a high performance blender.
2. Blend until smooth and creamy.
3. Serve immediately and enjoy.

  • Almond mylk is a delicious lactose free alternative to traditional dairy. Almond mylk and other nut mylks are also a good source of protein, the main function of protein is to build and repair, as well as sustain lean muscle.
  • Use 1 cup cultured natural yoghurt in place of mylk and create a delicious strawberry lassi. Add extra honey to sweeten.
  • Add a small handful of raw cashew nuts before blending to make your strawberry mylk creamy and delicious.
  • Pump up the protein and add 2 tablespoons Healthy Chef Protein.
