What I Eat For Gorgeous Skin and Hair

As I age, I’m all about nourishing my body, stressing less and having more ‘me’ time. I also think that every meal and every drink is an opportunity to fight ageing naturally, without having to resort to extreme makeovers or expensive facials or serums.

Long before I launched my own range of superfood and protein blends, I’ve always believed that the health of your skin and hair is a reflection of your overall diet. That’s why I’m so passionate about creating recipes and products that highlight the value of good food – the benefits aren’t just seen in your energy levels and internal health, but through your skin and hair as well.

Emerging research also shows the importance of nutrition in creating a healthy skin ecosystem, especially for those that struggle from skin conditions such as acne, psoriasis and eczema. Skin is the largest organ in your body, so it’s vital to nourish your skin and give it the glow it deserves.

Here’s my ultimate list for healthy skin and hair:

GREEN VEGGIES

Greens such as kale, watercress, cucumber, broccoli, parsley, Brussel sprouts and spinach have an incredible protective effect on the skin. They work as a natural anti-inflammatory in the body, helping to alleviate skin inflammation. They are also rich in B group vitamins that promote thick hair and dewy skin. Cruciferous vegetables like broccoli are high in sulfur that helps the synthesis of glutathione, one of the most important antioxidants in the body. High levels of glutathione in the body can prevent damage caused by free radicals, which are thought to be the major cause of skin ageing.

MATCHA GREEN TEA

Matcha Tea is a potent superfood powder obtained by gently milling green tea leaves into a pure fine powder. Healthy Chef Ceremonial Grade Matcha Green Tea is the finest grade of green tea available and is rich in the green pigment chlorophyll, which works to alkalise the body. By cleansing the blood and increasing its pH, cells have a better chance in receiving more oxygen and nutrients. This can help your skin to look clearer and more radiant.

COLD PRESSED WHEATGRASS

Similar to Matcha tea, wheatgrass is also rich in chlorophyll, aiding in the promotion of healthy and glowing skin. Just one shot each day can have an incredible protective effect on your body as it’s high in phytonutrients, B vitamins, amino acids, calcium and magnesium. I’ve created The Healthy Chef cold pressed wheatgrass to be more concentrated than traditional leaf wheatgrass powders, which means it’s highly alkalizing for the body.

BERRIES

Loaded with antioxidants and vitamin C, berries help to keep the skin firm by aiding collagen production. Berries have high antioxidant activities that believed to slow the ageing process by preventing oxidation, inhibiting mutation of DNA and helping to restore damaged DNA. They’re also a great natural sweetener to smoothies, desserts and raw treats.

PROTEIN

Protein is the key nutrient for ageless, beautiful skin and hair. The amount you consume each day varies slightly depending on your age, weight and activity level. You can find out how much you need from The Healthy Chef protein calculator. I love incorporating my  Healthy Chef Protein into my morning breakfast smoothies or afternoon goodness shakes and I can see the difference it makes in the health of my skin as well as my digestive and immune system. I’ve designed it to be the purest and highest quality protein supplement available and the highest source of amino acids L-lysine and L-proline, which are essential for the creation of collagen – keeping your skin plump and dewy.

An anti-ageing mask I swear by…

As well as nourishing my skin and hair with nutrient-rich foods, I love to pamper myself with this anti-ageing mask using Matcha green tea. This antioxidant rich mask will keep you youthful and radiant.
